Intermediate Mountaineering
Intermediate Mountaineering

Trip Highlights

  • Scenic boat rides on Lago Bertrand and Lago Plomo
  • Wonderfully equipped ranch and guesthouse facilities
  • Hands-On instruction in the Andes Mountains of Patagonia Chile
  • Comprehensive training program focused on education and practice
  • Enhanced technical challenges for the more skilled climber
  • Multiple summit attempts
  • Traditional Asado Parado (Traditional Chilean Barbeque)

One of the important aspects of mountaineering, is to make many of the techniques second nature as you increase the technical difficulty of the mountains and routes you attempt.  As the technical complexity of the route increases, so will the variety of skills and techniques required to be successful.  While you may not use every technique on every climb, it is important to stay proficient in as many as possible.  As with anything you learn, repetition is critically important.  Preparation, proficiency and adaptability are important traits of any serious mountaineer.

Our Intermediate Mountaineering course is designed for climbers who may possess some real world climbing experience, but feel they may be lacking in some areas or desiring additional technical training to take their climbing to the next level.  We'll focus on the areas below that will add the greatest value to clients given their current knowledge and skill levels.

With our hands on instruction in the field, you'll have an excellent opportunity to learn, ask questions, and practice the techniques being taught.  There will also be multiple summit attempts planned during the training.  Conducted in the Andes Mountains of Patagonia Chile, our 'classroom' astounds most participants and is coveted by mountaineers around the world.

Specifically, training will be conducted on the Contreras Mountain Range (2500m/8200ft), the Hidden Basin found within the Contreras, or the Paulina Ice Field (2200m/7216ft) based upon conditions at the time of training.
